Not very surprising, but still exciting is the fact that Time Magazine has voted President Barack Obama as the Iconic Person of the Year for 2012. Time Magazine editor Rick Stengel revealed the news and cover earlier this morning on the Today show. Stengel had nothing but amazing things to say about the President, stating:
“He’s basically the beneficiary and the author of a kind of a New America, a new demographic, a new cultural America that he is now the symbol of”
What some may find surprising is that Stengel compared democratic President Obama’s approach to his 2012 re-election to tactics used by 80’s President Ronald Reagan, saying:
“Using the coalition of the ascendant young voters, millennials, Hispanics minorities, he’s creating a new alignment, a kind of realignment like Ronald Reagan did 40 years ago,”
President Obama is no stranger to the cover of Time though, as he was chosen as 2008’s Iconic Person and appeared on the cover after being elected for the first time in 2008.
Barack was in the running for the 2012 cover along with candidates such as Hilary Clinton, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, Yahoo CEO, Marissa Meyer and Mohammed Morsi, President of Egypt. Of all the people who made major moves during 2012, we can’t think of anyone more deserving. Congrats, Barry!
