Black History month is right around the corner, and according to reports on TheGrio.com, R&B Queen Mary J. Blige will be executive producing and starring in a new Lifetime movie on two of black history’s most powerful women, “Betty & Coretta”.
Mary will be playing the role of Dr. Betty Shabazz, wife of Malcolm X, while the lovely Angela Bassett, will be playing Coretta Scott King, the late Martin Luther King Jr’s wife. It will also star big names like Malik Yoba and Lindsay Owen Pierre.
Representatives for Lifetime stated this in their press release:
When their husbands were tragically assassinated, these two women not only inherited the mantle of the civil rights movement in America, each also found herself to be a single mother who had to find a way to raise and support her children with no husband or father, resulting in a relationship like no other that spanned more than three decades,” reps for Lifetime said in a press release.
Betty & Coretta premieres on Lifetime Saturday, February 2 at 8/7c.
