Friday reports surrounding the flu have arrived, and according to The Huffington Post (via the CDC), the U.S. is facing a horrible flu season. It’s even expected to last for several more weeks. The illness has now spread to 47 states, 6 up from 41 last week.
Sadly, the number of pediatric deaths continues to climb. As hospitals deal with the massive influx of sick patients and many pharmacies give out their last vaccinations, the CDC warns that the worst may still be to come.
The H3N2 virus is the predominant virus that causes the flu. Lyn Finelli, Chief of Surveillance and Outbreak Response at the CDC states, “That virus is always associated with high numbers of hospitalizations and death”.
Another surprising factor, stated by the CDC, is that fewer and fewer people want to get the flu shot nowadays. A recent survey of theirs indicated that only 37 percent of the U.S. opted to get the flu shot this year.
The flu shot is highly recommended for youth under six months, as well as seniors over the age of 65. What have your experiences been like during this flu season?
