Khambrel Hadley, 20, was arrested on Sunday by Orlando, FL police after admitting to his mother that he had murdered his 19 year old girlfriend, Alyssa Oakes, on Friday Oakes was found dead in a wooded area in Sorrento, FL on Saturday. The couple had just recently moved into a new apartment and when police arrived to the residence, they reportedly discovered a homicide scene. Cause of death and motive have not yet been made known to the public, however many neighbors in the building told police that they often heard the couple arguing.
A neighboring woman told local news station WESH-TV that, “(Alyssa’s) parents came out here from time to time when they got into arguments.” A spokesman for the apartment complex also told WFTV-9, “the police were called to the couple’s residence to respond to a domestic violence call.”
Police began investigating Oakes’ murder after a young man, he requested that his identity be withheld, reported his car stolen and said that he had been hanging out with Hadley the night before and noticed that his car and keys were missing. The man described feeling violated by Hadley, “I felt pretty violated. That could have been me in the back of my own car.”
Hadley was captured by Orlando police after a brief chase on foot. He is being detained in an Orange County Jail and has been charged with second-degree murder and resisting arrest without violence, as well as car theft for the vehicle he stole from the parking lot of Hunters Creek Apartments.
