R&B legend and New Edition member Johnny Gill is suing the Four Seasons Beverly Hills for negligence in protecting him from a drunk White patron. According to reports, Gill was subject to racial insults and was beaten so severely that he could not perform on August 23, 2011. The lawsuit was filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Gill was talking to friends on the night of the incident, in the dining room area. According to Gill, he says that a racist and drunken white man began yelling insults toward him and his friends. That’s when Gill says that he was pushed against a heat lamp, which caused bodily injury, as well as pain and suffering.
He is demanding that the Four Seasons pay him for his medical expenses and also compensate him for money he lost by not being able to perform due to his injuries.
Gill also names the hotel in the lawsuit, noting the hotel staff never tried to intervene or quell the altercation. Gill is also alleging that the hotel’s cocktail lounge bartenders are negligent for allowing his would be assailant to get drunk.
Maybe the $1 million Gill is seeking will sober the drunken bully up.
Johnny Gill is now 46-years young, but still looks like and vibrant. He was the sixth member of New Edition and has made music with the group for over 20 years. He is the son of a preacher and started singing at the age of 5, in church, like so many other successful R&B artists.
