Atlanta police have confirmed that an 18-month-old male child has been shot in the chest in an Atlanta apartment has died. According to our sources, around 9:15 a.m. today, police received a phone call about a child shot in the chest with a BB gun in an apartment complex on Hank Aaron Drive in the southwest section of Atlanta.
Update: 1:30 p.m.: Neighbors learned of the accident when the parents ran out of the home crying. Shortly after the incident, Lt. Paul Guerrucci of the Atlanta Police Department gave a briefing on the tragedy.
Update: 3:15 p.m.: Police have formally charged Jesse L. Sellers with Felony Murder and Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
Upon arrival by the authorities, the child was rushed to Grady hospital and was pronounced dead. When homicide detectives arrived at the crime scene they found six people in the apartment, three of which were children. They also discovered a BB rifle nearby and spoke with the child’s father who has yet to be identified but police stated that he will likely be charged with the crime.
