Television Review: ‘The Watsons Go to Birmingham’

    On Friday, September 20th at 8/7c, Hallmark Channel premiers the new movie, “The Watsons Go to Birmingham.”

    The film, produced by Tonya Lee Lewis and Nikki Silver, is adapted from the book “The Watsons go to Birmingham-1963,” written by Christopher Paul Curtis. The fictional story boasts awards such as the Newbery Honor and the Corretta Scott King Honor.

    “The Watsons Go to Birmingham” is described by Hallmark as a “tale of a summer journey that leaves a family – and a nation – forever transformed.” The film stars Tony-winning and Grammy nominated actress Anika Noni Rose, who plays ‘Wilona Watson,’ and three-time Tony nominee David Alan Grier, who plays ‘Mr. Robert.’

    Other cast members include Skai Jackson, LaTanya Richardson, Wood Harris, Bryce Jenkins and Harrison Knight. Also on board is Director Kenny Leon, a Tony Award nominee.
