Former HOT 97 NY DJ, Mister Cee, formally known as Calvin LeBrun, returned to the station’s morning show to explain the video that may have destroyed his career. Mister Cee resigned from his radio show last Wednesday after an embarrassing video surfaced that appeared to show him soliciting sexual favors from a cross dresser, Bimbo Winehouse, a popular video-blogger.
Winehouse says that the video was made two weeks ago but Mister Cee begs to differ. He claims that it was actually shot last year.
On the Hot 97 morning show, station’s program manager, Ebro, spoke to Mister Cee about what happened. “Have I lied about getting sexual fellatio in a car with a transsexual, yes, I have lied about that,” he said. This is clearly undeniable because of the obvious video evidence. He is still sticking to his story that he isn’t actually gay, “Do I consider myself gay? No.” he said, before tears sprang from his eyes.
Mister Cee even compares himself and his ordeal to the infamous sex chronicles of disgraced NY mayoral hopeful Anthony Weiner. “You come forward and you say what it is… and now here comes a text … here’s an old video that comes. And my thing is like, man, am I going to have to keep answering to this,” he said.
The 46-year-old deejay, who has been previously arrested for soliciting prostitutes in recent years, openly revealed his emotional struggle on the show.
“I went through a lot in the past two years with certain situations that I’ve been through and I have tried to rise above those situations,” said Mister Cee. “I have tried to move forward from the situations … And unfortunately, every time I tried to move forward, it’s like I take one step forward and then two steps back … and I’m hurting the people that are closest to me, which is my Hot 97 family.”
Well, considering his track record, it wouldn’t be surprising if we heard they caught him again. Why are you afraid to admit it Mister Cee?
Shortly after the interview, General Manager and Senior Vice President of Hot 97, Alexandra Cameron released the following statement:
Due to some personal circumstances that have become public, after 20 years of service, Mister Cee has chosen to resign. We feel that this is in the best interest of both HOT 97 and Cee’s personal well-being. While we do not endorse the alleged activities, he is clearly facing a personal dilemma that is for him and only him to comment on. We are saddened by his departure; his contributions here at HOT 97 were great and we know him as a friend, a caring individual and significant hip hop advocate. We wish Mr Cee the best and will always consider him a family member of HOT 97. Moments ago, he officially signed off, on the air and will finish out his last show today on September 11, 2013, an already sad day for New York City.
Later on that day, Mister Cee recanted his statement and said that he will return to the show, after some encouragement from Ebro Darden.
While some couldn’t care less what his sexual preference is or who he sleeps with, the bigger issue is that he is practicing these behaviors and he is a married man with children. He has put his wife at risk for catching a disease and he is sending the wrong message to his listeners which some are still teenagers who may be influenced by the fact he is on a popular radio station promoting criminal behavior (prostitution) and lying about it.
We’re not sure if that’s such a wise decision on HOT 97’s part. What do you guys think, should he just resign already or stay with HOT 97?
