Davis Bozeman Law Firm Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis, has been selected as a 2013 Honoree by the Atlanta NAACP. He is to be honored at the annual Jondelle Johnson Freedom Fund Dinner for their philanthropic work on Saturday, September 21st at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. The dinner, hosted by Frank and Tanya Ski, will see Davis, as well as seven other outstanding leaders in the Atlanta community and the nation being honored.
Davis co-founded the Davis Bozeman Law Firm with his friend and Georgia State University law school classmate, Robert Bozeman. Bozeman leads the firm’s personal injury practice. Davis’ work with the firm includes representing public officials, athletes, entertainers, including most recently Lil’ Scrappy, where he appeared on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta as his legal representative. In spite of the representation of these high profile clients, Attorney Davis and the firm have remained true to its mission of being a community based law firm seeking to champion justice for people who have been marginalized and disenfranchised.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this honor. I will accept it as testament to the work of our courageous ancestors who set an example of resistance, struggle, and undying love for our people and their unyielding belief that we will be victorious.” – Attorney Mawuli Davis, Partner.
The Davis Bozeman Law Firm has also provided significant resources in support of several community organizations. Specifically, the firm supports “Let Us Make Man,” an initiative co-founded by Davis to provide positive direction and instruction to African American youth. The firm have also partnered with the Urban League, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the U.S. Attorney’s office to co-sponsor the New Beginnings re-entry program. They also support non-profit organization, Parents Against Distracted Drivers (PADD). The firm also supports free AfriSalsaTM Community Health Classes and Sister Self Care Support Groups for women. Along with these efforts, Davis and the firm also support the Kilombo Educational Institute by recently donating over $3000 worth of school supplies and teaching materials.
“We at the Davis Bozeman Law Firm commend Attorney Davis for leading our firm and community in working to challenge injustices and improve the quality of life for our children.” – Attorney Robert Bozeman, Managing Partner.
In addition to community efforts, they have been providing over 750 hours of pro bono legal services in the last 12 months to community members who lacked the resources for private counsel. In addition to the pro bono hours provided to the community, under Davis’ leadership the firm established a Community Affairs Division, which aids needy families in Clarkston, Decatur, and Atlanta.
Most recently, he was one of the primary organizers for a march of over 5,000 protestors from the Atlanta University Center to the CNN Center after the acquittal of George Zimmerman.
