Barneys has canceled the launch party for “New York Holiday” the title of the collaboration between Jay Z and the retailer. The event was supposed to be a fundraiser for the Shawn Carter Foundation. The charity will receive 100% of the profits from the collaboration’s sales along with 10% of all sales from Barneys New York and Barneys.com of Wednesday, November 20, the day the collection drops. Was this cancellation in response to the racial profiling claims that came about saying the retailer targets black shoppers? Most likely. The cancellation comes after the storm of controversy the collaboration had been receiving after two young students claimed they had both been accused of credit card fraud. Jay Z may have pulled the plug himself, advising that throwing a lavish party to celebrate a controversial project may not be the smartest move.
