Nelson Mandela, South African revolutionary and former president of South Africa has died. Mandela passed away this afternoon, announced by South African President Jacob Zuma. He was 95 years old. There are a lot words that describe Nelson Mandela moral compass, freedom fighter, politician, president, and South Africa’s symbol of the struggle against racial oppression. Nelson Mandela was the revered statesman who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead South Africa out of decades of apartheid. Mandela was the first black South African to hold office and first elected in a multiracial election. Mandela became the nation’s conscience as it healed from the scars of apartheid. Therefore Nelson Mandela served his purpose and changed the world. He will be truly missed and his legacy will never be forgotten.
