Neo- soul singer Erykah Badu has always been a style icon, so it was not a surprise when Givenchy’s creative director Riccardo Tisci announce her a s the new face of the brand. Badu will be featured in Givenchy’s new spring 2014 ad campaign. While creating the collection, Tisci, was already thinking of Erykah’s uniqueness.
The spring collection has an African and Japanese theme that works perfectly with Badu’s eclectic style, who models the clothing effortlessly like she’s been walking a catwalk for decades. Tisci and the Givenchy brand are always looking to showcase diversity on the runway or infront of the camera because of the lack of models of other races in the fashion world. So for an icon from the neo-soul world to land a deal as the new face of a high fashion brand is very huge for the hip hop community. “She’s one of the most stylish women I’ve met in my life. She’s got such a good sense of proportion, of colors,” says Tisci of his muse.
