As Nas celebrates the 20th anniversary of his classic debut Illmatic, the Queensbridge MC paid a visit to Georgetown University and had a thought provoking discussion with Dr. Michael Eric Dyson. The two discussed the state of Hip-hop and Black America as well as Nasir’s impact on the culture and society.
Dyson also discussed his book Born To Use Mics: Reading Nas’s Illmatic. Speaking of The Street’s Disciple, Dyson stated,
“Nas is worthy of the highest critical and academic celebration in the nation. The Harvard recognition, as well as the publication of a book about his first album, offers powerful testimony to Nas’ elevated artistic and cultural status.”
