On January 11th, 2013, 17- year-old Kendrick Johnson was found murdered, rolled up in a wrestling mat, in his Valdosta, Georgia High School’s gymnasium. An autopsy concluded that the death was accidental. Johnson’s family would not accept the findings, and started their own investigation into Kendrick’s odd and untimely death. An autopsy conducted by a private pathologist came to a different conclusion, finding that Johnson’s death was caused by blunt force trauma. The autopsy also found that Johnson’s body was missing all of his organs and was stuffed with newspapers.
Johnson’s unusual death has attracted national attention and many are still looking for answers.
Family and friends along with activists, attorneys, students, and other organizers came together on the 46th year anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to rally and support the family of Kendrick Johnson. The rally, held in Macon Georgia, was captured by acclaimed documentary producer Rahiem Shabazz.
