The reign of terror continues in Nigeria as more young girls were abducted.

Protesters were out in massive numbers in Lagos Monday calling for government intervention in these acts of terror. The kidnappings began back in mid-April with more than 200 young girls missing and has created an international uproar.

The suspect behind these abductions is an Islamic extremist group known as Boko Haram. The purpose of this militant group is to establish an Islamic state by destroying the governmental operations in the Northeastern parts if Nigeria. This includes bombing police and fire stations, schools, and churches or anything connected to Western civilization.

According to the New York Times, Hamba Tada, a local official in Gwoza reported that, 11 girls ranging from ages 12 to 15 were abducted from two villages in Northern Nigeria on Sunday night by the Boko Haram extremist groups. Tada stated that the abductors were armed with high-powered assault rifles and hauled into an 18-seater bus.

Al-Azhar, a renowned Islamic theological institute in Egypt, has denounced the Boko Haram abductions by stating they, “completely contradicts the teachings of Islam and its tolerant principles.”

Nigeria is Africa’s most populous country and its northeastern state of Borno has been traumatized by the abductions for three weeks now.
