NBA Superstar Kobe Bryant made an appearance on NBC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday night. During the interview Bryant was asked by Kimmel about the Lakers current coaching situation.
Bryant, who only played in six games during the regular season due to an Achilles injury, mentioned that he would like to play a significant role in the hiring of the next coach for the Lakers. Mike D’Antoni announced his resignation as head coach last week following a tumultuous season where the Lakers finished 27-55 the second worst in the Western Conference.
Kobe was not consulted by the Lakers front office for any advice in the last two coaching decisions. The first being Mike Brown who was terminated two years ago following a 1-4 start. The second being the subsequent hiring of D’Antoni.
Kobe, however, states that he has faith in Jim and Jeannie Buss to make the right decision in hiring the next head coach. Jim and Jeanie both took over as vice president and president of basketball operations respectively following the passing of their father Dr. Jerry Buss.
Kobe is expected to make $24 million next season after signing a two-year extension worth $48.5 million back in November and is looking forward to helping the reeling Lakers rebound from last season’s fiasco.
