The 2014 NBA Scouting Combine will be missing the three biggest names in college basketball last season: Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embiid, and Jabari Parker. All three of these players declared for the NBA following their freshmen years.
Wiggins, Embiid, and Parker decided to forgo the combine to hold private workouts.
As the case for most athletes making a transition from the collegiate to professional ranks there are questions surrounding certain qualities needed to adapt at the next level.
However, there weren’t any questions surrounding Wiggins going into the Combine. Embiid’s biggest question is of his health. Both Embiid and Parker are very athletic for their positions.
Embiid’s back could be of huge concern after injuring it back in March causing him to miss the Big 12 Tournament as well as the NCAA Tournament where Kansas lost in the third round to Stanford.
From the standpoint of overall skill, Parker may be the most NBA ready averaging 19.3 points per game, close to nine boards a game, and 1.3 blocks. Embiid averaged eight boards a game but his most astounding statistic was the 2.6 blocks per game showing his defensive prowess in the low block. Wiggins averaged 18 points per game and six boards a game for KU last season.
The NBA Combine will be hosted in Chicago this week and will air on ESPNU Thursday and Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Central Standard Time.
