Oklahoma Sooners guard Isaiah Cousins is not in need of any surgery after being inflicted with a wound from a stray bullet in his hometown Mount Vernon, New York. Head coach Lon Kruger made this announcement earlier today.

According to Mount Vernon Police Deputy Commissioner Richard Burke, Cousins was walking down a street with friends where there was an exchange of gunfire. It was reported that Cousins nor his friends were the intended targets but just so happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Cousins was struck in the rear of his shoulder but will not require any surgery. Therefore, Kruger does not expect Cousins to miss team activities this summer.

The rising junior guard Cousins started all 33 games for Oklahoma last season where he averaged 11 points per game and just over four rebounds a game.

He helped the Sooners finish the regular season with a second place finish in the Big 12 Conference with a 12-6 conference record and advancement to the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Conference Tournament where they lost to Baylor.

Oklahoma also participated in the NCAA Tournament but were upended in the second round by North Dakota State.
