Mexico kicked off their 2014 World Cup campaign with a bang as they edge Cameroon 1-0 on Friday.
Mexico managed to stave off Cameroon with an impressive goal by Oribe Peralta, the nation’s top scorer in the qualifying round. Mexico managed to hold off Cameroon despite the rainy conditions in the afternoon. After all these weather conditions is not the type of climate team Mexico is used to.
Peralta may have hit the game-winning goal for Mexico. However, they should have taken well control of the match. The huge factor was Giovani dos Santos having two goals waved off before the break on controversial calls from the referees. Here is a highlight video of the matchup.

Nonetheless, a win is a win for Mexico as they join Brazil with three points at the top of Group A. The hosts Brazil defeated Croatia on Thursday 3-1.
Peralta plans on doing what it takes to guide Mexico to the World Cup Championship. He stated in his thoughts after the game that, “I want to score as many goals as possible, to take advantage of every opportunity that I get because I want to be a world champion again.”
Mexico will square off against host Brazil in Match 17 this upcoming Tuesday at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
