In a recent interview, Hip Hop Enquirer sat down with Atlanta’s resident DJ, DJ Baby Yu. After crashing a surprise birthday party and reuniting with a long-time DJ friend, the Canadian native, Baby Yu spoke on how he got his start in DJing and the steps he took to become one of Atlanta’s top hip hop top DJs.
Initially DJing for a love of the craft, Baby Yu says a combination of learning the business on his own and meeting the right people led to his current success. Influenced heavily by EDM DJ, DJ Diplo, Baby Yu has had extensive experience in the hip hop genre. Most recognized as Young Jeezy’s official tour DJ, Baby Yu is big on the Atlanta night scene and plays sets in clubs like Opera, Reign, Halo Lounge and is broadcast live, weekly on the V103 radio station. In addition to Young Jeezy, Baby Yu has worked with a number of hip hop moguls including Jay-Z, Kanye West and Pharell.
Though he is most known for his hip hop sets, the open format DJ has fully adopted the convergence of trap music and hip hop with EDM (electronic dance music) and accredit his diverse musical background to growing up in Toronto.
Catch Baby Yu on air with V103 daily and be sure to check out Part 2 of the interview next week!
