Rumors have been spiraling for months that a movie was in the works to showcase the Rise & Fall of legendary rap group N.W.A. This week we finally received our confirmation when Universal made the announcement that the film is scheduled to hit theaters August 14th, 2015. Ice Cube and new Apple Inc. executive Dr. Dre tweeted the first official photo featuring the cast. Featured in the photo below from left to right, top to bottom, Ice Cube, director F. Gary Gray, Dr. Dre, O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Ice Cube), Jason Mitchell (Eazy-E), and Corey Hawkins (Dr. Dre). It’s great to see Ice Cube’s son portraying Cube in this movie, who knows, this might be a breakthrough film for the young actor.
The N.WA. biopic entitled “Straight Outta Compton” is set in Compton in the mid 1980’s and the film’s description via Universal reads as follows: “Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., ‘Straight Outta Compton’ tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.”
The movie will begin shooting next month and no one could be more excited than Ice Cube. “We’re telling the story from the inception of N.W.A. to the death of Eazy-E and that’s the story,” he said.
