Hip-hop recording artist and actor reigning from Chi-town, Illinois, Common, delivers the Hype Williams-directed visual for his latest single, “Kingdom”. Williams starts off the video with a long-drawn three minute introduction before the actual song (or story-line, for that matter) commences. Common and, featured artist, Vance Staples are never actually seen in the video, with the exception of blurred faces and dimmed lighting schemes.
“Kingdom” is the lead single off Common’s upcoming album, Nobody’s Smiling, which is scheduled for release on July 22nd. Common touched upon the reason for the title stating, “It was really a thought that came about because of all the violence that was going on in Chicago but it’s happening around the world”.
