Three months since undergoing surgery on his back, Tiger Woods announced today that he plans on returning to the golf course. Woods will be returning to competitive golf next week to participate in the Quicken Loans National which is a PGA Tour tournament held outside Washington D.C.

Tiger announced on his Facebook account his decision to return to the PGA Tour but made mention to the fact that he still may be “rusty” upon teeing off.

Despite the rustiness that Woods is expected to have to overcome in his return to the links, he stated that after much therapy and recovery from his back surgery he is excited about being back out on the golf course.

The procedure Woods underwent is called a microdiscectomy to alleviate a pinched nerve in his back.

Woods has been suffering from back problems dating back to late last year. However, those ailments in his back took a heavy toll in early March.

Tiger withdrew from the Honda Classic after 13 holes in early March. A week later Tiger made his last tournament appearance to date in the WGC-Cadillac Championship, where he shot a 78 in the fourth round.

Woods missed the Masters Tournament this year for the first time in his pro career along with the U.S. Open.

The last PGA Tour tournament Tiger has won was back in August at the Bridgestone Invitational. Since then his back problems have been recurring and have drastically affected his performances in subsequent tournaments.

Tiger returns in enough time to compete and making a run to qualify for the FedEx Cup playoffs as well as embarking on a journey to compete in the Ryder Cup in September.
