Nick Cannon has announced, without actually announcing, that he may be playing the role of Richard Pryor in an upcoming Lee Daniel’s film.
In an interview with TMZ, Cannon stated he didn’t want to “jinx” anything by specifically stating he got the role, but it was implied. He’ll probably start cursing more and smoking cigarettes—I wonder how Mariah will feel about that?
Cannon, who has played cleaner roles in the movies Love Don’t Cost A Thing and Drumline, might not be the man for the respectable job. He has his funny moments, but maybe he should stick to hosting “America’s Got Talent.”
However Marlon Wayans, one of many multi-talented brothers and comedians, could be the right fit, according to Richard Pryor’s family. They came forward when the news of Cannon’s interview went viral and it didn’t appear they were in agreement with Cannon playing such an iconic role.
Regardless, Lee Daniels will make the decision he wants when it comes to who can and will play Pryor in the most authentic way. If Daniels wants a Disney character, then Cannon wins, hands down. I say ask Cannon or Wayans to light themselves on fire and whoever does so should not be the man for the job…or should he?
