On the heels of an impressive championship run, Gregg Popovich has agreed to a multiyear contract extension with the reigning champion San Antonio Spurs. The terms of the contract extension have not been disclosed.

The 65-year-old Popovich has coached the Spurs franchise to five championships over the span of 15 years starting back in 1999, back when the Spurs had the most dominant frontcourt in the NBA with Tim Duncan and David Robinson. Even more impressive is the fact that within those fifteen years, San Antonio has been to the postseason every year.

Popovich’s extension gives the added incentive for vets such as Duncan and Boris Diaw  as well as other prominent players to stick around for next season.

Outside of his five championship rings, Pop is currently the longest tenured head coach in the NBA. He has an overall career record of 1,116 wins and 533 loses which equates to a 66 percent career winning percentage that includes the playoffs. In addition to winning his fifth championship ring this past season, Pop obtained his third career NBA Coach of the Year award.

Needless to say Pop will be enshrined as one of the greatest coaches to ever step foot on the hardwood.
