Addressing the Missouri shooting of teen Mike Brown, J.Cole is not holding back and has a lot to say. The track is quite emotional, a little less anguish like J.Cole’s usual tracks. Many have made comments via social media about which artist is going to rap about the issue but leave it to the hip-hop artist from North Carolina to take the lead.
J.Cole also had a little to say about the issue at the bottom of the single’s cover:
“Rest in Peace to Michael Brown and to every young black man murdered in America, whether by the hands of white or black. I pray that one day the world will be filled with peace and rid of injustice. Only then will we all Be Free” – Cole
This is a clear example how one man’s expression of art can bring awareness to a society that is plagued with mistrust of those who are charged with protecting the people. Let’s see what other hip hop artists stand up to the challenge.
