XXL Magazine Sold, Headed To Digital Only Format

Hip Hop Magazine XXL has been sold to Townsqaure Media and the October/November issue will be the  iconic rap mag’s final print edition. Harris Publications also sold their King and Antenna magazine brands to Townsqaure which will also survive as digital properties. Townsquare’s digital portfolio also includes Taste of Country, PopCrush, Just Jared, Hype Machine, ScreenCrush, Loudwire and The Boombox.

“The acquisition of XXL, King and Antenna from Harris Publications represents the continued growth of Townsquare Media’s national digital asset portfolio and our commitment to the cultivation of influential brands and original multimedia content in music and entertainment,” commented Bill Wilson, Townsquare Media’s Chief Content Officer. “We are tremendously excited to add these premium brands to Townsquare Media’s portfolio which attracts over 75 million US monthly unique visitors, allowing advertisers and agencies to better reach the incredibly important urban audience.”

XXL debuted in 1997 and used to release double covers of each issue in its early years and is highly respected for its “Freshmen List.” The staff off XXL will transition over to Townsquare Media and new personal is also expected to be added to the digital team.
