The Georgia peaches are back! Bravo TV’s Real Housewives of Atlanta premiered yesterday with its season 7 opener. Why does a hip hop site cover RHOA? Because our Editor-in-Chief made a guest appearance on last night’s episode.
In the opener, our favorite housewife Nene Leakes takes her talents to Las Vegas at Cirque du Soleli’s Zumanity. This job is perfect for Nene’s over the top personality and she is no stranger to showing skin and being fabulous. “I’m a performer. I act, I sing, I dance. I run businesses. I’m a mogul…I’m everything,” she assures us. Make that money, honey.” Back down south in Georgia, newlyweds Todd and Kandi prepare for Todd’s 18-year old daughter Kaela, who is moving in from New York to live with them. Will Kandi’s daughter Riley be ready to share the spotlight since she is use to being spoiled by her mother?
Kenya Moore makes a “dramatic” return to Atlanta from a three-month trip around the world. She is still dealing with the aftermath of the explosive fight during season 6 reunion between Porsha Williams and herself.
Finally, we reach miss Phaedra Parks who is hiding out from the paparazzi in an Augusta, GA hotel room with her children the morning of her husband Apollo’s sentencing for fraud. After the sentencing Apollo felt abandoned by his wife who did not show at the hearing. During the hearing he was sentenced to 8 years and must pay a 1.9 million dollar fine for his misdeed.
Phaedra finally returns home days after to face her husband, who was pissed that she didn’t show up at his sentencing hearing. Apollo plays the “victim” and claims he wants out of the marriage after he is released because of Phaedra’s lack of support, communication, and emotion to one of the biggest crisis in his life. They argue in front of their son and Phaedra’s mother about where their marriage stands and Phaedra claims that he has to own responsibility for his own actions and how he has ruined her name, that she has worked so hard for. Was Phaedra wrong for not standing by her husband’s side in a crisis? Is committing a crime the result to an ending of a marriage?
Apollo meets up with Todd to talk about his wife’s lack of involvement with his current situation. Kandi, however feels that her loyalty goes to Phaedra and she just says hello and leaves. In the confessional, Kandi Burruss commented about former President Bill Clinton and the scandal that involved his former intern Monica Lewinsky. It was especially interesting hearing how Kandi didn’t have an issue with explicitly referring to the act the two had engaged in at the Oval office.
Peter gives his wife Cynthia another business proposal over lunch. Claiming without giving her the full details, he wants to make her a “silent partner” in his upcoming business venture. Cynthia hesitates and gives him the side-eye but eventually Peter’s wife says she will do her part. Why is it that this couple is always starting over every season?
Either way, if Phaedra shows emotion or not, this situation is terrible especially for those two boy.
This season will surely be drama-filled as well as we will be introduced to newcomers Claudia Jordan and Demetria McKinney in episodes to come. It was also interesting to watch how Andy Cohen pressed Nene Leakes for an answer whether she suggested on twitter that she might in fact be leaving the show. Of course all good things must come to an end but what the heck..she’s on Broadway now.
