Many around the world have anxiously awaited the indictment of Officer Darren Wilson for the unjust shooting death of unarmed teenager Mike Brown on August 9, 2014.
The family of Mike Brown, citizens of Ferguson, MO, and onlookers around the world thought today would be the day of justice. However, that was not the case, with a grand jury of 9 whites and 3 blacks, they decided declined to indict Officer Wilson for the shooting death of Brown. The jury is said to have considered whether Wilson was the initial aggressor or acted in self defense.
The family of Mike Brown is said to be “profoundly disappointed” and calls for peaceful protests.
Protesters have been gathered outside of the Ferguson Police Department for hours awaiting the announcement. The crowd of protesters in Ferguson continues to grow. The National Guard has secured the prosecutor’s office building, and Ferguson police are standing by.
Before his untimely death, Brown had recently graduated high school and was scheduled to start college the fall.
HHE’s Dennis Byron is on location in Ferguson to cover the story. Stay tuned for updates.
