After the killing of Eric Garner, an unarmed man who was murdered by police in New York, celebrities have decided to take matters into their own hands. Rap mogul Jay Z met with governor Andrew Cuomo yesterday to discuss criminal-justice reform. According to Melissa DeRosa, who is Cuomo’s spokesperson, said that the “conversation was about a top-to-bottom review of the criminal-justice system, and how we can all work together to pass a reform package that ensure equality of the law.”
Jay’s reach and influence does not end or begin with the Garner case. He also quietly paid for the tuition for Sean Bell’s children, who was killed by NYPD in 2006 and donated money to Ferguson protestors. Also, he helped with the “I Can’t Breathe” shirts that were worn by NBA players Lebron James, Kevin Garnett, and Kyrie Irving on Monday.
