UPDATE: George Zimmerman has been arraigned and the judge has found probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault for throwing a wine bottle at his girlfriend. Bond was set at $5,000.00 and he was ordered to surrender all his firearms. His next court date is February 17th.
The man acquitted by a Florida jury over the death of Trayvon Martin could be facing some real jail time this go around. George Zimmerman, 31, was arrested in Florida on Friday on suspicion of domestic violence and aggravated assault with a weapon. Around 10 pm, Zimmerman was arrested by police in Lake Mary and booked into the John E. Polk correctional facility, which is run by the Seminole County. He is due to appear in court 9 am, Saturday.
“Zimmerman was charged with aggravated assault and is currently on a no bond status,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “The next step in the process is first appearance. At this time, the judge may address bond status.”
In 2012, Zimmerman made national headlines after the death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old African-American male who was fatally shot by George Zimmerman. Although, Zimmerman was found not guilty by the jury and was a free man, it did not end his issues with the law. Two weeks later after the verdict, he was pulled over for speeding in northern Texas and then eventually bigger issues occurred when in November 2013 George was taken into custody in Florida after a fight with his girlfriend in an Apopka home. After being arrested for assault and misdemeanor counts of domestic violence, accusations which he denied, Zimmerman posted $9,000 bail days later. Then when the girlfriend decided that the issue should be dropped, prosecutors decided not to press charges.
More recently, in September 2014, Lake Mary police said that a man claimed that Zimmerman threatened him during a road rage incident. “I will … kill you,” Zimmerman allegedly said, according to police. “Do you know who I am?”
Police declined to make an arrest in that incident however it seems that Georgie will finally get see how a real thug should be treated.
