Chicago wordsmith, Chance the Rapper, recently did an interview with GQ magazine discussing eclectic rap style and his new album.
In the interview Chance, whose real name is Chancelor Bennet, confirmed that his new unnamed LP will feature Frank Ocean, J. Cole, and André 3000. The rapper also discussed the Social Experiment, a hip-hop collective dedicated to injecting a bit of theater back into the genre’s live performances. The performances will feature many different antics including stage blocking, choreography, video and puppets, yes puppets.
Chance described the Social Experiment “peaceful and positive extension of a real, grungy aesthetic.” The show has a musical-theater aspect that centers around exclusivity.
“I think creating a space that you can only see in the moment is really important. I like the fact that some of your favorite Broadway musicals are not made into movies,” said Chance.
