Award winning artist Big Boi narrates a video about recording at the iconic Atlanta studio, Stankonia, exclusively for the Converse Rubber Tracks studio takeover.

“Stankonia is what we would like to call the place where all funky things come from,” said Big Boi during his brief narrative in the video. He talks about how he started recording in the studio with his group mate, Andre 3000, when they were 16. The “Speakerboxxx” rapper revealed that all of the hits were recorded there from Stankonia to Idlewild, including the hits “So Fresh So Clean,” “Hey Ya,” “Ms. Jackson,” “The Way You Move,” and many more.

Last month Converse announced the global launch of a new program that will give aspiring musicians a once in a lifetime opportunity to record original music at one of 12 of the greatest recording studios in music history at no cost. So far the program has received thousands of applications and will continue to receive them through Wednesday, June 24. Selected artist will be invited to record at one of their top three studios in September.

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older and any music genre is accepted. Participating studios other than Stankonia include Abbey Road Studios in London, Tuff Gong in Kingston, Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, the original Converse Rubber Tracks studio in Brooklyn and many more.

Converse Rubber Tracks was created out of the brand’s desire to give back to the music community and provide opportunities for artist who couldn’t afford to record in a studio. With their original 5,200 square foot studio in Brooklyn, New York, Converse has helped over 900 emerging artist record their music with a team of experienced engineers at no cost. Converse Rubber Tracks is a platform that allows artist to come in and fully release their creative spirit and retain the rights to own their music.
