635726443366932248-Bland-04City Council members of Prairie View, Texas have named the road she was arrested on in her name. According USA Today, the council hopes this will serve as a constant reminder of the injustices they say she suffered. Also adding that it should help law enforcement make the best decisions possible and follow the best practices.

The stop which took place on University Drive will now be called Sandra Bland Parkway. It will remain that way for at least three to five years until the council members can vote on the matter again. Her name will now be at the entrance of Prairie View A&M University and a park will also be dedicated to her not far from the university as well.

Bland was pulled over for supposedly failing to signal her changing lanes. Her interaction with state trooper Brian Encina escalated when he forced her out her car for not putting out her cigarette. He then would arrest her on the charge of assaulting a public servant. She would then be found hanging three days later in her jail cell.

The family of Sandra Bland have filed a wrongful death lawsuit as they believe she never should have been stopped, let alone arrested and her death on their watch makes them accountable. They are also asking for the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate.
