The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will give director Spike Lee an honorary Oscar on November 14th at the 7th annual Governors Award. Spike Lee is best known for directing great films such as Malcolm X, School Daze, Do The Right Thing, 4 Little Girls, Inside Man and Jungle Fever and that is only naming a few. Lee has only been nominated twice in his career for an Oscar. First for ‘Best Original Screenplay’ with Do The Right Thing and ‘Best Documentary’ for 4 Little Girls. His lack of nominations is often controversial as his films are considered to usually be snubbed by the Academy.

Gena Rowlands will also be receiving an honorary award and Debbie Reynolds will be getting the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Congrats to Spike Lee as his contributions in film have been incredible and he is more than deserving of this honor.
