The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards are officially over but the aftermath of some of the things that transpired are far from it. The host this year was Miley Cyrus and she did, for lack of a better word, an interesting job with her skits. One of them included her using the word ‘Mammy’ which did not go unheard by many, namely Chance the Rapper.

For those who do not know, and going off Twitter there is a lot of people, Mammy is a stereotype or caricature of black women and this image or ideal was used to show that black women were happy being slaves. They were glad to serve their white family and often depicted as overweight, older, dark-skinned and very submissive to white people.
So one questions why does Miley Cyrus have this as a nickname for, of all people, her grandma? Is she that oblivious or ignorant?
