Nicki Minaj is to take a step in the domain of television as she set to executive produce and appear in a scripted comedy series about her life growing up in Queens, New York. Deadline Hollywood had the exclusive report and says the show will focus on her in Queens in the 1990’s with her immigrant family and Minaj’s musical and personal growth.
When asked about the venture, Nicki stated, “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.” The show is written by Kate Angelo, (Bernie Mac, Will and Grace) with Aaron Kaplan, Stella Bulochnikov, Brian Sher, Gee Roberson and of course Minaj herself serving alongside as producers.
The show is currently untitled and Variety reports it will be a half-hour show shot by single camera. For those unaware of Nicki Minaj before she broke it big, she originally pursued a career in acting prior to rap stardom. She attended LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, where she studied acting. She has started her acting career with her voice role in Ice Ace: Continental Drift, The Other Woman, and will be featured in a starring role in Barbershop 3 .
