Ms. Lauryn Hill is one of greatest musicians ever, and as a member of The Fugees and her classic solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill stands the test of time. That was released in 1998, and fans have been clamoring for a new project since. While there have been songs from Lauryn Hill sporadically through the years, there has not been that follow-up album.
In the a recent feature conversation in The Fader magazine, music producer Phil Nicolo and film producer Jayson Jackson said that she is appearing to be pushing for a comeback. This is based on her work on Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone has inspired her to create new music again.
“I know creating makes her very happy,” Jackson said, “I couldn’t see her doing as much as she did [on the Simone project] in any state other than happiness.” Jackson worked on the Netflix film What Happened, Miss Simone? that coincided with the Nina Simone album that Lauryn Hill contributed six songs to.
Nicolo also added this about her current creative state, ” When she was first getting back into it, there were times when she wasn’t as positive. But I think she’s in the best place I’ve ever seen her. She seems happy and very centered. When I see her, her face lights up.” This is wonderful news to fans of Ms. Lauryn Hill, as she is not only once in a generation artist, but once in a lifetime.
