Saturday, October, 10th, 2015 marked the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March in Washington D.C. Led by Minister Louis Farrakhan, herds of people marched in solidarity to the National Mall to hear speeches addressing police brutality, the politics affecting people of color , reparations and much more.
Minster Farrakhan had called for many hip hop artists to show up to the event and they came out and represented for a much bigger cause than themselves. This included Jeezy, J. Cole, Snoop Dogg, Russell Simmons Puff Daddy, Common, Ty Dolla Sign, Afrika Bambaata of the Zulu Nation and many other hip hop figures. Rappers were not the only black celebrities to come out as Dave Chappelle, Phaedra Parks, Porsha Williams and Bryshere Y. Gray from Empire as well.
Farrakhan spoke for over two hours where he lectured on the disenfranchisement of people of color, including the Redskins NFL name. He lectured on abortion, denying involvement in Malcolm X’s assassination, and most importantly Farrakhan’s urge to get the next generation ready.
