The family of Tamir Rice, the 12-year old Cleveland boy who was shot by police within 2 seconds of them arriving to a city recreation center where Rice was playing with a toy gun. Prosecutors and a Cuyahoga County grand jury declined to hold police officer Timonthy Loemann and Frank Garmback accountable for the death of Rice. Loehmann who fired the fatal shot had previously been released from an earlier job as a cop because of his careless behavior with using firearms in the past.
Nearly two years before he shot and killed a 12-year-old who had an air gun, Cleveland Police Officer Timothy Loehmann resigned from another police job after a supervisor described him as “distracted and weepy” and “emotionally immature.”
Cleveland Police Officer Timothy Loehmann resigned from another police job after a supervisor described him as “distracted and weepy” and “emotionally immature.”
Records from the Independence Police Department obtained by CNN include comments from a supervisor detailing what they called “a pattern of lack of maturity, indiscretion and not following instructions,” a “dangerous loss of composure during live range training” and an “inability to manage personal stress.”
Prosecutors speculated that Tamir may have reached for his toy gun to show the cops it wasn’t real. The question many have asked was why did the cop fire the gun immediately upon arriving when Rice never pointed it at them. The case was only presented to the grand jury in October of 2015 however the shooting occurred last November. Why wasn’t the case presented to the grand jury sooner? Did the prosecutors make an honest effort to hold cops accountable for this shooting?
Rice family lawyer Earl Ward said Samaria is so upset she’s not going to be doing interviews immediately.
“She’s devastated and distraught,” Ward said. “She firmly believed there was enough evidence here to return an indictment.” The family will be seeking assistance from the US Justice Department’s Civil Rights division.
