Accused murderer Michael Slager is the cop seen on a video that has since went viral of him shooting motorist Walter Scott in the back as he was running for his life and then Slager is seen planting what appears to be his Taser along side the dying man. Yesterday, South Carolina Circuit judge Clifton Newman decided to grant Slager a $500,000.00 surety bond (10%) because of an 11-month case backlog according to court records. Slager is facing 30 years to life without parole if he is convicted in the death of Scott.
State prosecutor Scarlet Wilson argued that Slager is a flight risk but said she was unable to prosecute the case right away since she is also prosecuting Dylann Roof’s case. Roof is charged with walking into a South Carolina church and sitting with worshippers before executing nine of them. It is obvious Judge Newman who likely saw the video of Scott’s killing felt very little compassion for Walter Scott’s family as he has ignored the pleas from Walter Scott, Sr. not to free Slager from jail.
“If we let him out, he’s going to go home to see his wife and children. All I can look at is a pot of flowers,” Walter Scott’s father stated to Judge Newman, referring to Slager.
Judge Newman set an October 31, 2016 date for Slager’s trial to begin.
