When you’re as connected as L.A.’s Luce Cannon, coming up with great music is second nature. But it didn’t start off that way for this LA native that unfortunately spent time in prison as a product of South Central’s rough streets.
Now free from ills of incarceration, Luce Cannon is making strides in the streets in more positive ways, finding a passion for making music that his peers and fans can appreciate. Ever since his release he’s been making music with big name acts and going forward it looks like he’ll be doing the same for his debut effort, Product of South Central.
“I started making music when I was 17 years old, doing poetry and writing a lot when I unfortunately got caught up in the system and ended up going to prison for two years. I needed a change in my life, so I started writing more when I was in prison and when I got out I wanted to go for it. Ever since 2009 I’ve been hitting it hard, I came out doing a song with Nipsey and YG called “Bringing California Back” in 2010 and I haven’t looked back since,” Luce Cannon explained.
Now a mainstay on the Hollywood scene, Luce Cannon has found himself amidst the drama of Love and Hip-Hop after teaming up for a track with Fetty Wap and his baby mama’s enemy Hazel E. The track has been controversial since the day it was recorded, but now Hazel E is using the song as ammo to attack Fetty’s baby mama Masika.
The track premiere exclusively on VH1 recently, but here is Luce Cannon’s take on the recording of “Do Anything.”
“Hazel E is like my big sis, she used to mess with Swisha House, Slim Thug and others and basically there was some drama with her and Fetty Wap’s baby mama. So Fetty asked if I knew her and I reached out to her. He was like, ‘lets get back at this bitch, this bitch Masika trying to ruin my life.’ So we were in the studio and I called Hazel and I was like you got to hear this verse that Fetty Wap did. She liked it and so we worked on her verse, I did mine, and the rest is history.”
While this song is sure to make waves across the industry, Luce Cannon has a huge project set for release later this Spring, preceded by a trio of mixtapes in the mean time.
“Over the next 6-8 months I’d like to drop my first album, ‘Product of South Central,’ I’ll probably do like 3 mixtapes before I drop that album, but I want to hit the ground game harder and I want to keep building the fan base until then. The project is the story of my life in the past and where I’m at today – we’re almost there. ” Luce Cannon said looking to the future.
Barring clearance issues, Luce Cannon’s debut effort is set to feature Nipsey Hussle, YG, DJ Mustard, Metro Boomin, Mike Will Made It, Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, French Montana, 50 Cent, Big Sean and more.
