Today five-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist Lalah Hathaway premieres “Don’t Give Up”, her first single of 2017. The Recording Academy acknowledged Hathaway with “Best R&B Album” and “Best Traditional R&B Performance” at the 2017 Grammy Awards yesterday. Being awarded “Best Traditional R&B Performance” for her third consecutive year breaks Grammy records, making Hathaway the first vocalist to reach such critical acclaim.
2017 is Hathaway’s fourth consecutive year winning a Grammy, having won “Best Traditional R&B Performance” in 2016, “Best Traditional R&B Performance” in 2015 and “Best R&B Performance” in 2014. She was previously nominated for “Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance” in 2011 and “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance” the year prior.
Hathaway’s impressive vocal capabilities have led to dozens of collaborative opportunities including a track on the “Hidden Figures” soundtrack alongside Pharrell Williams, a feature on Kendrick Lamar’s revolutionary To Pimp a Butterfly album and other collaborative works with the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, Herbie Hancock, Frank Ocean and Snoop Dogg.
