And the fat lady has sung. It has just been announced that music mogul and former chairman of Epic Records, Antonio Marquis “L.A.” Reid has decided to leave Epic Records for reasons that are currently unknown to the public.
He is certainly no rookie when it comes to holding that executive title and joined the famous music label in July of 2011. During his 6 years there, he developed some of today’s most popular acts such as Meghan Trainor, Travis Scott, Fifth Harmony, Future, and DJ Khaled.
Reid started off drumming for the R&B band called The Deele which was formed in his hometown of Cincinnati, during the early 80s. Later, he officially moved to Atlanta where him and Deele bandmate Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds formed LaFace Records. Together, they launched the well-known careers of artists like Usher, TLC, and Pink. In the year 2000, Arista and LaFace records became one as Reid became the new CEO.
Our sources are revealing that the mogul was terminated by Sony because of a claim of sexual harassment by one of his assistants back in December of 2016. More details will be revealed in the days to come.
In 2011, Reid signed on to officially become a celebrity judge on Simon Cowell’s hit show, “X Factor”. The show ended up running for a total of three talent filled seasons and ended up launching the world’s next big girl group Fifth Harmony. During his time on the show, Reid admitted to having difficulty being able to successfully multitask between his label and television duties. After the show, he was able to focus on the label more and incorporated a more urban feel into the mix with DJ Khaled and Future.
