Born as Reid Anthony Swann, 16-year-old Young Reid is a rising high school senior who began his rap career during his middle school years. Hailing from Pasadena, California, Reid moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the young age of five. Looking up to names such as Kid Ink, Big Sean, J. Cole and Chance The Rapper, Young Reid aims to relate to his audience through his lyrics and his ability to illustrate a story through all of his music. He describes his authentic sound as a mash-up between DJ Mustard’s West Coast sound and Atlanta’s own Travis Porter, and easily relatable to a teenaged audience.

Back in March 2017, Chance The Rapper donated $1M to Chicago Public Schools as a way to give back to his community after all of his success in the music industry as an independent artist. Inspired by this philanthropic act that urged the Illinois governor to take action, rapper Young Reid created Pay It 4ward Performances. Just because he has opened for Jermaine Dupri’s SoSoSummer 17 Tour in Charlotte, NC does not mean that things have slowed up for this young entertainer in anyway possible.

The concept simply is to give back to the community and Young Reid is determined to encourage young African American children – such as himself – to follow their dreams no matter where they may come from. “I was so inspired by Chance the Rapper when he gave a million dollars to the Chicago Schools,” said Reid. “I don’t have a million dollars to give but I felt like I could still inspire young African American boys and girls to follow their dreams.”

Young Reid effectively communicates the message, “be the best you can be at what you want to do”, through the use of the popular acronym GOAT – Greatest Of All Time. Young Reid has already taken his message to over 150 kids at the Ken Carlson Boys and Girls Club in Winston Salem, NC. At the end of the brief talk he raps two of his more popular songs “UP” and “336”. He has created the hashtag #PayIt4wardPerformances and encourages artists to hashtag it when posting performances where they are giving back.

Originally a lunchtime hobby, Reid would spit bars with his friends until they began to praise him for his hidden talents. By winter of 2015, his parents had bought him a recording set for Christmas to take his skills from the cafeteria to the next level. After teaching himself how to use the software, he self-produced his debut mixtape, Reid Between The Lines (2016), which has over 3,000 streams on SoundCloud. His sophomore mixtape, Never Felt This Way Before (2016), which received over 3,600 streams. He later released the official visual for “Clap Clap” from Never Felt This Way Before and has gained over 5,000 views and counting on YouTube.

He has been featured on Queen Lo, Desert Storm Radio, Streetz 103.3, Power 98, and Johneri’O Scott.
