The legendary Talib Kweli has dropped his anticipated eighth studio album titled Radio Silence

Radio Silence serves as the Kweli’s first LP since 2011’s Gutter Rainbows. The 11 track album features guest appearances from Rick Ross, Waka Flocka, BJ The Chicago Kid, Jazz artist Robert Glasper, and the normally reserved Jay Electronica.

Kweli speaks on racism, the changing value of radio play in hip-hop and a tribute to Bresha Meadows, (a 14-year-old who was arrested for killing her father after years of alleged domestic abuse, titled) “She’s My Hero”. Talib shares with NPR that the inspiration for the song came from; ” The idea that a child of that age has to make such a weighty, heavy decision and it felt like her only option in that situation. Whatever was going on in that house, she felt like her only option was to murder her father. Your father is who you come from, your father and your mother. The idea that you would want to murder them — either they have to be doing something that’s so drastic that you feel like you have no other choice, or there has to be some mental illness going on there. And both domestic violence and mental illness are things that are not talked about enough in our communities. She physically reminded me of my own daughter, and the story, I felt like, didn’t get enough mainstream radio play. The track, produced by Oh No, inspired me to want to try and tell the story from her perspective.

Radio Silence exemplifies Kweli’s ability to embrace his influences and create an extraordinary piece of musical work. Radio Silence will take the listener on a musical journey that will elevate the mind, body, provoke thought, and uplift the spirit while you vibe to the variety of musical notes and beats. Opening you up to the mind socially conscious  Hip Hop prophet we call Talib Kweli.

Radio Silence is the perfect remedy in a world that is purging itself from abuse, mental illness, and racial prejudice. Talib gives the listener a higher perspective on reality and how whats felt on the inside is reflected on the outside.
