    Da Brat set to Star in ‘Set It Off’ Stage Play

    Hip-hop legend Da Brat will play Cleo in the new stage play Set It Off based on the 1996 American Crime Action Movie. The star announced her role in the play along with her cast mates on Friday via Instagram.

     “Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to finally reveal my amazingly talented AND gorgeous CAST!! OOOOOOW SHAT!!! A @jecaryous production,”

    The stage play was written, directed, and produced by Je’Caryous Johnson. The cat includes  Da Brat, Latoya Luckett, Demetria McKinney and Kyla Pratt. No news on which roles Luckett, McKinny and Pratt will play, but what we do know the play is happening.

    Based on the 90’s classic that starred Queen Latifah (Cleo), Jada Pinkett Smith (Stony), Kimberly Elise (T.T.) and Vivica A. Fox (Frankie).The film follows four close friends in who decide to rob banks in order to better themselves and their families.

     

    Complex reported that Da Brat had been planning to play the character of Cleo ever since the time she was turned down for the original role.  

    Set it Off is my favorite movie of all time,” Da Brat’s statement read. “I couldn’t let it get away from me twice and had to jump at the chance. Je’Caryous Johnson presents Set It Off is a dream come true for me and I’m honored to bring it to fans across the country.”

    Set it Off will premiere March 9 at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta and then hit Washington D.C., Houston, Chicago, St. Louis, and Detroit before wrapping up on May 6 in Los Angeles.
