Tekashi69 is having an epic week in news headlines. From recently being kidnapped and robbed to releasing what looks like a #1 hit (Fefe) with Nicki Minaj, and being added to the NICKIHNDRXX tour. Some would think the Brooklyn rapper is on the rise, while others including NYC legend Mos Def are not impressed.
Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def recently shared his opinion about Tekashi69’s music on A$AP Rocky’s AWGE DVD Monday. And he says “That was the most depressing sh*t I’ve ever seen in my life.” after watching 69’s popular hit ‘GUMMO’. In the third installment of A$AP’s behind the scenes meets Smack DVD. Yasiin appeared to be unimpressed with the Brooklyn rapper.
“Why is everyone acting like this new? This is a version of the same old sh*t,” Bey said. He then name drops Brooklyn street rap pillars like M.O.P. The duo consisting of Billy Danze and Lil’ Fame, scored mainstream success in the early aughts with the rowdy track, “Ante Up.” After breaking down the groups’ origins stories, the snippet ends with his statement, “That was the most depressing sh*t I’ve ever seen in my life.”
It is no secret that Tekashi isn’t everyone’s favorite NYC rapper. The rapper has had his share of beef with several key players in the rap game from Chicago’s Chief Keef, The Game, YG, J. Prince Jr. and fellow Brooklyn MC Casanova. Although Yasiin and 69 have never exchanged words it is clear that the NYC MC is not a fan.
Check out what Yasiin had to say in the video below (15:04 mark).
