Jurors at the U.S. trial of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman have found him guilty on all counts.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York confirmed the jury had reached a verdict Tuesday. The spokesperson also confirmed Guzman had been found guilty on all counts.
The man who inspired a Netflix special “El Chapo” sat stoic inside a New York federal courtroom as the verdict was read. The trial lasted over three months with witness after witness taking the stand to expose the operations of one the biggest drug lords in US history.
Guzman’s power reached the levels of the Mexican government as one witness testified that he paid Mexican Pena over 100 million dollars for protection, something the President has denied.
It is now likely that the U.S. government will seize all assets belonging to Guzman and perhaps that too could be used to pay for Donald Trump’s wall.
His sentencing date is June 25.
