Kim Kardashian West was granted $2.7 million in damages along with $60k in attorney fees from the Missguided USA clothing company on Wednesday, July 3.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star sued the company back in February on claims that the company uses her face, body and name to sell knockoff dresses, according to TMZ.
West has repeatedly made claims of Missguided and other clothing companies using her likeliness to sell their products, even going to far as to post on Instagram saying “P.S. fast fashion brands, can you please wait until I wear this in real life before you knock it off? ????” She filed the lawsuit quickly after this post.
The company quickly responded to the post saying “The devil works hard but Missguided works harder @kimkardashian you’ve only got a few days before this drops online,” the post was followed with a picture of a model wearing a lookalike version of the dress Kim was wearing in her post.
While the 38-year-old originally requested 10 million in damages, Missguided failed to respond to the lawsuit causing the court to award West a default judgement, according to TMZ.
Missguided also has entire pages dedicated to selling Kim inspired knock off dresses, causing consumers to believe that West is associated with the brand. The judge in the ruling stated, “Missguided has repeatedly used Kardashian’s name and likeness without permission on its social media platforms to promote the sale of its clothing.”
The court has also permanently banned Missguided from using Kim’s trademarks such as her face and other assets.
